FAQ's

Are e-bikes legal in the UK?

Yes. Electrics bikes are considered EAPC’s – Electrical Assisted Pedal Cycles. And are road legal provided they meet the below 3 requirements:

1. They must be fitted with typical cycle pedals that can be used to drive it
forward.

2. They motors continuous rated power must not exceed 250W

3.The electric assistance must cut out at 15.5miles per hr.

At E-Bike Junction we only sell EAPC's so all our bikes meet these 3 requirements.

Can e-bikes go on trains?

Most train operators in the UK allow electric bikes on board. However each operator will have different restrictions.

While we would suggest checking with the specific train operator you are planning to travel with, here is a summary of common factors to consider.

Size: The e-bike must be similar in size to a normal pedal bicycle. Excluding those of larger sizes i.e. tandems and trikes.

Road legal: The e-bike must adhere to being road legal i.e. have a max 250W motor, max assist
speed of 15,5m/hr and have traditional cycle pedals.

Peak Times: During peak times some operators have additional restrictions for full size bikes. Fully fold up bikes are allowed on all trains at any time of the day.

No charging: You cannot charge your e-bike while on board.

Reservation: In the UK there is no fee for taking your bike on the train. However some operators require you to make a reservation.

Should I be worried about e-bike battery fires?

The e-bikes that are most at risk of catching fire are those that have been modified or tampered with.

This includes fitting any after market extra's such as twist and go throttles to make the bike move without having to peddle. Those that are not
charged correctly according to manufacturer guidelines or bikes that have had after-market batteries installed are at particular risk.

E-Bike Positive Campaign

Here at E-Bike Junction we are
pledged and part of the E-Bike Positive
Campaign

We strongly believe in strengthening consumer confidence in e-bikes through education and knowledge.
And are committed to follow bets practices including:

1. Only supply safety-tested charges and batteries from trusted suppliers.

2. Provide chargers, batteries and components that are documented as compatible with each other and the e-bike they will be used with.

3. Include complete safety information and users instructions with all chargers and batteries.

Which is the best e-bike to buy?

Electric bikes come in so many shapes in size we get it, it can be hard to choose!

However in our view the best e-bike to buy meets two simple criteria.

1. One that suits your lifestyle and needs the best. I.e. The overall design, from
the shape of the frame, to the features it is fitted with, align with the type
of riding you want to do. (Get in touch if you would any advice)

2. Secondly it should make feel you excited to ride it!!
